                     Family History

Agriculture Children’s Act 1873.
That after Jan 1st 1875 no child under eight years of age shall be employed in any kind of agricultural work unless the parent or guardian of such child can produce a certificate to the following:
1. In the case of a child over eight and under ten that he has completed 250 school attendances within the twelve months proceeding the issue of the certificate.
2. In the case of a child over ten and under twelve: that he has completed 150 school attendances within in the same period. These certificates are to be supplied,on application.

The report of Blake’s death sent to the Admiralty by a navel officer  included:

“As he lived, so he continued to the end, faithful.”

Agricultural Children’s Act 1873.

Any child who has obtained from one of her Majesty’s Inspectors of Schools a certificate to the effect that he has reached the fourth standard of education, or such standard as may from time to time be fixed for the purpose of this Act by ministers of Education Department, has triumphantly freed himself from the provision of the act, and may be freely employed without risk of penalty either to his parent or to his employer.
